Many new online businesses begin with a product and then search for somebody—anybody—to buy it. The stronger starting point is a group of people you can understand and a problem they already care about solving.
A useful audience is specific enough to understand
You do not need to know every detail about your future audience on the first day. You need a clear starting definition: who they are, what they are trying to accomplish, what gets in the way, and where they already look for help.
Listen before you promote
Search results, questions, reviews, forums, communities, and direct conversations reveal the language people use. That language helps you create content that is understandable and relevant.
Let the audience guide the tool choice
Once you understand the person and the problem, you can compare possible solutions responsibly. The tool becomes part of the answer instead of the beginning of the sales pitch.
